During these times we have to find not only ways to self-express our frustrations but also to process the visual content that we come across. This workshop allows us to process the sociopolitical happenings of today and produce a deliverable-- a political poster that bolsters marginalized folks or oneself.

PROJECT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS
What?
Project Prompt / Challenge
Need a way to communicate your interpersonal struggle?
Self-portraiture and visual metaphor can help create a self-reflective visual poster that will communicate a strong message toward yourself and your community that will help fight those insecurities. Finally, in order to get this product in your hands, we will track down the best way to print and disseminate your finished art piece. With this, you will learn how easy it is to share your ideas as deliverables.
How?
Stratey
Think of the influences around you, from your community, from your family, and from yourself. From a macro perspective to a micro perspective, and from various timelines and his/herstories. How have your experiences and those that you want to speak about been affected by hegemony, and how have they fought against it?
For this assignment, you will create a visual representation of the chaos or your plan of action in order to recruit others to join your cause. The process of making your image could also help you flesh out the ideas you have toward a new visuality.
I will help you locate a printer near you and teach you the essential aspects of preparing a file for print.
Materials:
If you have access to adobe photoshop or can download it on available devices, I will walk you through the process of printing your selected images and the required steps in preparing your files for print. However, this project can also be done in a less technical way. Find a sturdy backing board/base, cardboard, and/collage papers. Use these accessible materials to make your portrait or scene. With assistance from a local printer, these can be copied and printed as deliverables as well.
Timeline:
approximately 15-18 hours of class meeting time
